The Wi.232EUR module combines a state-of-the art low power
wireless transceiver with a powerful multipoint-to-multipoint
protocol controller to form a transparent wireless communication
solution capable of replacing wires in any RS-232/422/485
application. It is fully backward compatible with the Wi232DTS module, allowing products to be designed
for both the US and European markets.
With a 120dB link budget and very low power
operating modes, the Wi.232EUR module is excellent for AMR,
RFID, Home Automation, and any other application requiring
long range (<1500ft LOS) and long battery life (3 years
from AA battery, 10 years from LiThCl battery).
The module is designed to be totally transparent. No special
addressing or formatting of data is required. Data is validated
using an internally generated CRC-16 and encrypted using
a proprietary encoding algorithm. Multiple modules can operate
on the same channel because of the built-in carrier-sense-multiple-access
(CSMA) protocol.
The transceiver operates in two modes: narrow-band and wide-band.
In both modes, transmitter output power is programmable from 0-15dBm. In NB mode
the maximum data rate is 38.4kbit/sec. There are 19 available channels in NB mode. In WB mode, the maximum data rate is 152.34kbit/sec.
There are 15 available channels in WB mode.
In either mode, the Wi.232EUR module is an excellent alternative
to expensive and power-hungry frequency hopping modules.
With 114dB link margin at the highest data rate, and 120dB link budget at the lowest data rate, the Wi.232DTS
will work farther and faster than any module in its class.
Because the module does not require frequency hopping, synchronization
is very fast, allowing long duty cycles and very good battery
power performance .
